Your 2025 ADHD Resource Kit: From “Right to Choose” in West Yorkshire to the Best Online Guides

Why read this? Waiting times for an adult ADHD assessment have exploded — up to 549,000 people in England are in the queue right now. (Source: NHS Digital) Below you’ll find two high-impact resources that can make the wait shorter and easier to manage: West Yorkshire “Right to Choose” pathway – a local route that lets you pick an NHS-funded private provider. ADDitude Magazine – the most trusted online library of evidence-based ADHD tools, tests and webinars. Sprinkled between them are quick answers to the questions clients ask me every week.

What is “Right to Choose” for ADHD in West Yorkshire?

Under NHS rules you can choose an approved provider for your ADHD assessment if your local service is overwhelmed. West Yorkshire has created a one-stop information hub explaining the process, FAQs and potential hurdles. West Yorkshire Health & Care Partnership

Does “Right to Choose” really speed up an ADHD assessment?

Often, yes. Once your GP agrees a referral is clinically appropriate, you can select from RTC-eligible clinics (e.g., Psychiatry-UK). Clients in Leeds tell me they were seen within a few months — versus several years locally. Timing varies, so apply early and keep copies of every email.

How long is the ADHD waiting list in England in 2025?

Latest NHS data show 549k people waiting; only 9 % got an appointment within 13 weeks. NHS Digital

And for family members of loved ones who have ADHD?

There are online groups such as ADHD Support Group for Parents of Young Adult Children, but such support is typically harder to find

Can “Right to Choose” cover medication reviews, too?

It can. Once diagnosed by an RTC provider, they can usually take someone with a diagnosis through titration and onto a medication plan. They can then share a treatment plan with your GP: "Shared Care Agreement". Your GP is not obligated to agree to this but should do if they refer you to a Right to Choose provider. Check with your GP and chosen provider before you commit.

Quick-start strategies you can use this week

  1. Body-double: co-work on Zoom or at a café to jump-start focus.

  2. Two-minute tidy before tasks — reduces visual overwhelm.

  3. Digital boundaries: schedule socials 2× daily; turn off badges.

  4. Exercise micro-doses: 20 star-jumps or a brisk 5-minute walk to reset dopamine.

  5. Compassion script: swap “I’m lazy” for “My brain needs scaffolding.”
